And Fashion Month begins!
New York Fashion Week started on the 6th of September 2018 and ended on the 12th. (Check the fashion week schedules for the rest of the month here). Aside from celeb scandals, like the Cardi B/Nicki Minaj fight at Harper Bazaar’s ICONS party; this year’s NYFW will be memorable for all of its unique fashion moments. We gathered the best ones for you to have a nice and clear summary of this September’s first fashion week. Enjoy!
Leather, feather, nude, black, and white, this is what Tom Ford Spring-Summer 2019 was like. We got to see skirts clinched with corsets, men jackets redesigned for women. It’s a brutal, dark, yet quiet collection that screams Tom Ford’s vision of High Fashion.
Colors, flowers, gowns, and silhouettes, Rodarte’s comeback to the fashion scene is one of the most unforgettable fashion moments of this season. A classy extravagance, Rodarte Spring-Summer 2019 amazed us all, either by the shimmering dresses or the endless petals.
For the brand’s 50th anniversary, New York witnessed admirable and classy Ralph Lauren shades for the fall season. Coats, Blazers, fur and dresses, this was a true celebration of the great designer.
Dion Lee was an original show. With some pieces made of lace, and some others with cuts at a hips level, Dion Lee was recognizable for its details, rawness and smoothness. It is particularly sexy, yet so soft and minimal. With nude colors, pastel and black and whites, this show was also a flashback from the 90’s fashion and style.
One of the most creative shows, the designs going from skin-like colors, to extravagant gowns, dresses, doodles, and a money theme; it was a perfect representation of what you’d expect to see during Fashion Week. We loved it.
The Shanghai-based designer redefined what urban clothing is. Very modern, actual and strong, this season’s Yajun collection did not fail to impress. The new designer is promising, and so are her designs.
It’s elegant, it’s chic, it’s this season’s Dennis Basso. This season’s designs were quality looks, and truly told a story. Extremely sophisticated, these light clothings are a nice ensemble of refreshing and calm colors. However, the designer might want to go fur-free.
Oscar de La Renta
Oscar de La Renta. Need I say more? Particularly beautiful, so nicely done and elegant. These are designs most of us wish we could own.
Christian Cowan, or simply pure art. First an element of pop culture, Christian Cowan also revealed attitude throughout this show with the help of his crazy, but genius designs. It was a real spectacle.
This Mansur Gavriel Fall 2018 Collection stood out for its admirable precise work, but also for its capacity to make fall look like spring. In this show, colors went from white, nudes and beiges; to pastels, pink and yellow, and end up with blue themes. It’s a really clean work for sure, a collection that we would love to wear ourselves this season.
Last but not least, the one and only Marc Jacobs. Not only did his show start 90 minutes late, (and some would say it was a move against Rihana’s 7:30pm Fenty show in Brooklyn), but he also presented one of the most memorable collections ever. We’ll let you judge by yourselves:
New York Fashion Week was a great opening to fashion month. Le’ts not forget some other great elements, like the Jeremy Scott boots, or the wine purse by Brandon Maxwell. What are your favorite fashion moments from #NYFW18? Don’t hesitate to mention and tell us on Twitter: twitter.com/artmisse.
